For Parents

General Information

Scholarships are based on financial need and recommendations from donors and schools. They are awarded four times each school year: October, December, February and May.

A school tuition organization cannot award, restrict or reserve scholarships solely on the basis of recommendation. Also, a taxpayer may not claim a tax credit if the taxpayer agrees to swap donations with another taxpayer to benefit either taxpayer’s own dependent. You may not designate your own dependent as a potential recipient. (A.R.S. §43-1603)

Basis on Which Scholarship Awards are Determined and Awarded

  • Students must be currently enrolled full time in a qualified Arizona K-12 Adventist School for the year matching the submitted application.
  • An official application from the Arizona Adventist Scholarships, Inc. (AASI) must be completed and submitted prior to consideration and/or approval of the request for a scholarship.
  • Students must demonstrate financial need as determined in part by the information requested on the AASI Application and Income Declaration forms.

All applicants will be considered based on the information requested on the AASI scholarship application:

  1. Annual family income
  2. Number of household members
  3. Number of dependents
  4. Number of dependents in Arizona qualified schools
  5. Number of dependents attending junior college/college/university both in state and out of state
  6. Other extenuating circumstances
  • Switcher scholarships will only be awarded to verified, eligible switcher students.
  • Recommendations from donors and school scholarship personnel will also be taken into consideration, however, scholarships will not be awarded based solely on donor recommendation. [A.R.S. § 43-1603 (B) (3)]
  • Scholarships will not be awarded to a taxpayer that agree to swap donations with another taxpayer to benefit his/her own dependent. [(A.R.S. 43-1089 (F)] Any donations received from a “swap” will not be used to fund a scholarship for the suggested students.
  • All scholarship awards are determined by, and disbursed by, the AASI Board of Directors.
  • Students receiving Academic Achievement Accessible (AAA) or Empowerment Scholarship Account (ESA) tuition funding are not eligible for any Arizona Adventist Scholarships during the period of time they are receiving funding from these organizations. This meets requirements set by these organizations.

Eligibility and Funding Sources

There are two parts to the state tax credit plan. Each one provides a scholarship funding source that benefits different populations of students.

“Original” funds are part of the original state tax credit plan for private schools. Students are eligible for these funds if they are enrolled in an AZ Adventist school, their parent or guardian resides in Arizona and is paying Arizona taxes, and the child has a current scholarship application on file in the AASI office.

“Switcher” funds (also called PLUS or Overflow) benefit students that have met eligibility requirements above and have “switched” from public to private school, are enrolling in, or are currently enrolled in a private school kindergarten, children that are enrolling in, or are currently enrolled in a preschool for children with disabilities, or those who are dependents of a member of the armed forces of the United States who are stationed in Arizona pursuant to military orders. A student that received a switcher individual scholarship under one of the above criteria in a prior year and the child continued to attend a private school in subsequent years is also eligible.

Students switching from Public School to a private school are only eligible to receive scholarships from this funding source if they have submitted a completed Public School Verification form for approval by the AASI Office. The student must have attended an Arizona public school for a minimum of 90 days during the prior fiscal year before enrolling in the private school. Parents can obtain a printable form below or by contacting the AASI office, or you can obtain one at your child’s school. The Public School must complete the form.
